RCMP charge two men after search warrants in Melfort

More information has now come out regarding the increased police presence in Melfort on the morning of Wednesday, April 15.

RCMP executed two search warrants on Wednesday in Melfort, one at a residence in the 100 block of Broadway Ave. South, and another in the 200 block of Stovel Ave. East. As a result of the search warrants, RCMP found drug paraphernalia, unknown pills, unknown powder substances, and weapons. The unknown substances have been sent to Health Canada for testing.

Four individuals were arrested as a result. Twenty seven year-old Craig Natomagan of Prince Albert has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and two counts of Fail to Comply with a Release Order. He appeared before Melfort Provincial Court on Thursday, April 16 on those charges and several outstandings warrants. He’s set to appear again on Tuesday, April 21.

Also arrested as part of the warrants was 66-year-old Vance Shmyr of Melfort. He has been charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine. Shmyr is set to appear Melfort Provincial Court on July 13.

Two adult females were also arrested, but they were released with no charges.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Emergency Response Team, Crime Reduction Team, Tisdale RCMP, and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan were all involved as well.

The investigation is ongoing.
