SIGA prepared to protect guests when allowed to re-open

While their properties across Saskatchewan are closed, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) is telling patrons they will be taking precautions when they get the green light to re-open.

In a message sent out this week SIGA, which owns and operates seven casinos, including Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert, the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford and Gold Horse Casino in LIoydminster said they are working diligently to put in place new health and safety measures to protect guests.

SIGA declined to make anyone available for an interview for paNOW but said direction would be taken from the province when it is given.

Like many currently closed entertainment and hospitality venues, the casinos will be pondering how best to allow the public to return as and when restrictions are eased. Social distancing is a challenge, as is the reality most of the games involve touching machines used by many players.

paNOW asked for the public’s opinion in a poll question Thursday about what sort of health measures would be appropriate once casinos could re-open. The vast majority figured it was still too early to re-open but had many ideas for once the go ahead comes.

One commenter said they would like to see temperature checks and screenings at the doors, and a limit to the number of people allowed in.

Another agreed with a limit of customers at any one time and a need to ensure proper physical distancing protocols are adhered to. Others said hand sanitizer at the door would be needed.

And one of the respondents to the poll question wondered if it would be possible to give patrons equipment such as gloves and masks.
