PAPS receive 47 calls related to COVID-19 public health orders

The Prince Albert Police Service has received 47 calls related to COVID-19 public health orders as of Monday.

In a media release, PAPS said the majority of calls involved complaints around non-compliance with social distancing guidelines and travel restrictions. No fines have been issued nor arrests made.

The service is promoting voluntary compliance with public health orders to stay home and limit gatherings to 10 people or less.

Police officers continue to focus on high-visibility enforcement during the pandemic, the release said. Officers have been conducting general patrols, known as neighbourhood strengthening, throughout residential areas, business districts and high-traffic locations.

Patrol members logged 765 high-visibility patrols between April 1 and 15, in addition to regular calls for service.

Officers have been practicing physical distancing, including having only one officer per patrol car. Four additional patrol cars have been brought into service to accomodate the change.

The release noted to date no officer or staff member with PAPS has tested positive for COVID-19, but the public may see officers in the community wearing masks and gloves as part of additional efforts to protect against the virus.

Extra cleaning services have been contracted. Additional equipment, including a high-powered sanitation sprayer, was purchased to assist to clean patrol vehicles and detention areas.

In addition to the temporary closure of the front office at the downtown sub-station, PAPS staff members who can work from home have been doing so since late March.
