Woman injured in snowmobile incident

Parkland Ambulance responded to a snowmobile incident over the weekend in the Anglin Lake area.

According to Director of Public Affairs with Parkland Ambulance Lyle Karasiuk, paramedics cared for a 51-year-old female.

“She was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital for [her] injuries. I believe she has been discharged home,” Karasiuk told paNOW. “The incident we understand is that she was out for a ride with a few members of her immediate family when because of terrain she was tossed from the snowmobile.”

The incident took place on April 11, 2020.

Karasiuk is encouraging all snowmobile riders to exercise caution as warming weather takes its toll.

“With the recent snow and [freeze-thaw cycle] we’re seeing some of the trails deteriorate quite significantly. To the point that some of them are pretty rutted up and [are] pretty hard to navigate,” Karasiuk said.

Riders may also want to check ice thickness on local rivers, lakes and sloughs which may now be too thin to traverse safely.

He added if you are riding a snowmobile you should always leave instructions on your intended trip and expected time of arrival. As well, be sure to stay visible and be extra cautious when crossing roadways.
