The Prince Albert Food Bank has received a notable donation.

In a media release from the Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation (PAACF), the Lawson Foundation in consultation with the PAACF will be donating $20,000 to the Food Bank.

The PAACF was approached by a foundation out of Toronto called the Lawson Foundation which focuses on the healthy development of children in Canada. PAACF was asked to provide a list of groups providing services to those affected by COVID-19.

“The PAACF gathered names of organizations/agencies who are working directly with the people of Prince Albert. We found several groups working very hard in this field but had to decide on only one to receive the available funds,” the release said.

Within a week, the Lawson Foundation directed funds to the local Food Bank. sent the funds to the Food Bank to help them continue their services.

Food Bank executive director Kim Scruby told paNOW the financial assistance is an enormous help.

“That’s huge for us that’s really gonna help keep the shelves full,” Scruby said.

He added its expected more people will soon access the Food Bank.

“At this point right now we’re actually getting a lot of calls from the community just asking when we’re open, what’s the process of getting a hamper,” he said.

Scruby said they’re keeping up with all the calls.

“These are tough times with the number of people who became unemployed overnight,” he said. “We are really grateful they chose us, you know. There are a lot of great causes in P.A.,” he said.
