First COVID-19 case in James Smith Cree Nation
James Smith Cree Nation has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.
A public notice signed by Chief Wally Burns was sent to community members on Sunday, April 5. It said the individual was tested on Friday, April 3 after developing symptoms. They’re self-isolating at home.
The notice added James Smith Health Clinic staff were working with the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority public officials to monitor the situation and exposed persons were being notified.
“At this time, prevention remains the best way for community members to protect themselves. It is critical that residents take precautions to protect themselves against respiratory illness,” Burns wrote. “We urge community members to follow the precautions outlined by the public health officials.”
