Feeding Through the Lens

Local photographer collecting non-perishables for the food bank

The Front Step Project has made its way to Prince Albert in support of the Food Bank.

Photographers across North America are breaking out their cameras and snapping shots of people standing outside their homes while collecting donations for local charities.

Prince Albert photographer Brittany Olsen decided it would be a fun project.

“I thought it would be wonderful to bring to Prince Albert,” Olsen told paNOW.

Olsen has started taking bookings and schedules each with a time slot. Once she arrives at the house, she leaves a bag for Food Bank donations, rings the doorbell and moves away from the door.

Families have their photo taken from a distance outside and they leave their donation in the bag. Once they move back inside, Olsen seals the bag and continues onto the next house. She said the sessions take about 30 seconds.

She asks all donations be put in a plastic bag before she shows up, to help limit any contact with the items.

In two days of work, she has collected two large totes of non-perishable food items for the Prince Albert Food Bank, she said.

“Anything canned. Dried pasta, Kraft Dinner, anything the Food Bank can keep stocked on their shelves,” she said.

Olsen, who also works as a nurse, said it’s nice to have an outlet that also helps the community.

“It was just kind of something that I could (do to) get out and alleviate some stress and enjoy a hobby of mine, while also allowing me to give back,” Olsen said.

She encourages anyone interested to contact her on Facebook page Brittany Nicole Photos.
