Kelly Taylor live show a big hit

Some say laughter is the best medicine.

On Monday Night XFM Morning Co-host, Kelly Taylor provided a free comedic live show on XFM’s Facebook page. During the live stream the show had as many as 1,600 viewers and since then, the video has had 20,000 views.

“It was actually a lot more fun than anticipated,” Taylor told paNOW. Adding when he was approached to do it, he was a bit hesitant, but he is glad he did.

“As the day went on, I was looking forward to doing it because I knew they had a nice setup and all that,” Taylor explained.

Taylor said it was a new experience for him and was surprised how fast the views were climbing at the beginning of the live show.

“The biggest show I have ever done is 2,500 maybe about ten times in big festivals, so then you think it’s at 1,600 and you think you average two people a thing so maybe we’re at 3,000 [viewers],” Taylor said. “The funny thing is the smallest show I ever did was my biggest show I’ve ever done.”

He explained he prepared coming into the show knowing he wouldn’t have a live crowd to gain energy from.

Taylor added he made light of the current situation and the new Netflix documentary Tiger King, which are jokes he has never tried before and required some improvisation.

“I just went with it and you kind of almost start building confidence as my show was going on,” he said. “It was almost like doing a show in front of a big crowd, like I had a little bit of an adrenaline rush and felt good.”

Before the show Taylor had people messaging telling him they needed a good laugh, and he provided just that.

“When we’re in a tough time, laughter maybe is the best thing at that time.”

He is now receiving messages from people asking him if he will do it again and since most of his shows have been cancelled because of the pandemic, he joked at the thought of charging for his next gig.

“If we get a bunch of views maybe we can get out of the hole,” he laughed.

During the show he made a joke to the viewers to send him money via e-transfer and to his surprise he received many donations. His plans are to buy groceries for his family and then he will donate the rest to the Victoria Hospital.

“Thanks for everyone who tuned in and especially thanks to all those that donated,” he said.

XFM Program Director Danny Kid said the show was successful.

“I thought it was hilarious,” he said. “If you really crank up the sound during some pauses you can hear me laughing in the background. A very different feel for a Kelly Taylor show but we just had so much fun. At a time like this where everybody is self-isolating and there’s not a lot going on outside, it’s nice to have that kind of escapism. It’s nice to have that entertainment option that’s local and it was cool for us to try something new too.”
