P.A. police making adjustments during pandemic; face ugly realities

Mar 29, 2020 | 4:00 PM

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for all of us, and some frontline personnel have felt that more than others.

Prince Albert chief of police Jonathan Bergen released a video on Instagram detailing what his officers are doing to help during the pandemic. That includes a particularly unsavoury incident.

The video details a disturbance that happened sometime last week that officers were called to. A male was claiming to have COVID-19, was acting violently and spat on the officers while being arrested.

“It is our job as police officers to help you when you need us,” Bergen said in the video. “That includes times of uncertainty, such as those which we are seeing now. I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are doing our very best to ensure public safety in our community.”

Bergen said that more officers have been on patrol during the pandemic, to ensure everybody is following the public orders from the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

“Increased visible police officers are out every day patrolling to keep you and your property safe, as we do our part to protect Prince Albert from COVID-19,” Bergen said. “We’re asking that you all do your part and comply with the health orders to help curve the spread of the virus.”
