Two Prince Albert athletes are in the running for some big prizes as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies roll out their athletic awards.

Track and field athlete Karson Lehner is nominated for the E. Kent Phillips Trophy for Male Athlete of the Year, while volleyball player Daulton Sinoski is eligible for Rusty McDonald Trophy for Male All-Around Athlete.

Lehner broke the Canada West record for the 300m race with a time of 33.07 at the Canada West Championships, ranking him seventh in the world.

He also became the first-ever Huskie to win the USports Male Track Athlete of the Year award. He also earned silver medals at the national level in both the 300m and 200m relay, and a bronze medal at the national level in the 60m.

Sinoski was named as a Canada West All-Star and was awarded Order of Gabriel Dumont Bronze Medal. Sinoski closed out his fifth and final year with the Huskies, leading the team in both kills with 212 and blocks with 70.

Also nominated with Prince Albert ties are former Prince Albert Minto Taran Kozun and former Prince Albert Northern Bear Kate Ball, who’s up for Male Athlete of the Year. He was awarded the USports Goaltender and Player of the Year.

Ball is up for the Patricia Lawson Trophy for Female Rookie of the Year. She had two goals and five points in 28 games for the Huskies.
