Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 case total at 86, four cases transmitted in community

The province has confirmed community transmission of COVID-19 is now taking place, as all previous cases were travel-related.

As of Wednesday, March 25, the province confirmed 14 more cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, bringing the total to 86 reported cases.

Four of those cases were transmitted locally – in other words not directly linked to travel outside of the province.

However, there were no additional cases reported in our two large regional areas known as Central and North. That figure remained at 11.

Four of those cases are individuals 19 years of age and under and 69 cases are between the ages of 20 to 64. Thirteen cases are 65 years of age and older. Fifty-seven per cent of cases are males and 43 are females. Four cases have been hospitalized due to COVID-19

There are eleven cases between the central and northern areas of the province, a large region which includes Prince Albert. The province has not specified municipalities in which the cases are located, citing privacy concerns.

To date, 6,270 tests for the virus have been performed at the province’s Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory.

Moe responds

Premier Scott Moe thanked the public for their efforts in slowing the spread of coronavirus.

“Everyone of you is part of massive civil defense effort to protect our people, to protect our families and to protect our province unlike anything most of us have seen in our lifetime.”

With a new wave of business closures to take effect tomorrow, Moe said liquor stores are not on the list and aren’t under consideration at the moment.

“This is no time to add to our detox capacity, to add people into that system or any of our addictions services,” he said.

He also said closing publically-owned liquor stores would push people into smaller number of stores.
