Amid concerns of COVID-19, Prince Albert Catholic Family Services will be conducting all counselling over the phone and are encouraging the public to reach out it they need help.

All seven of the non-profit’s counsellors are now working from home to help slow the spread of the virus.

Executive Director Louise Zurowski told paNOW one of the main struggles in the face of the pandemic is anxiety related to the uncertainty of the situation.

“Not knowing what the future’s going to hold,” she said. “Changes that they have to implement in their lives without really knowing what that is”

For people who already deal with anxiety and depression on a regular basis, this can be especially troubling.

“If you are already working with a client who is suicidal or suffers from a great deal of anxiety or stress, that is just elevated during this time,” Zurowski said.

She added Catholic Family Services will also be there to provide care for front-line workers like health care workers and police.

“We want to make sure that people who are providing essential services are also supported,” she said.

Although their means of communication may have changed, Zurowksi explained the organization’s message to the public has not: If you’re experiencing stress, anxiety or depression, there are professionals who can help you.

“It’s how we handle the physical piece of it [that’s different], the emotional and the mental piece hasn’t changed. We’re still here to help you.”

Counselling at Catholic Family Service is available on a sliding scale, so no one is turned away due to lack of funds. They can be reached at 306-922-3202.
