The leader of the provincial NDP, Ryan Meili, announced in a video news conference on Friday that he is in self-isolation at home.

Meili said his wife, Mahli Brindamour, who is a pediatrician, woke up this morning with a cough, so they are taking precautions.

“So we’ve changed our social distancing to self-isolation until she is able to get tested and be sure that she doesn’t have COVID-19,” said Meili.

Meili is also a doctor. He said during the video new conference, with a prediction that 30 to 70 per cent of the population could get COVID-19, it is going to be a huge stress on health care workers.

“There’s a message going out to health care providers that we need doubling of the call rotations so that there’s always someone backing up call because so many health care workers are already having to self-isolate,” said Meili.

On Thursday, the president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association, doctor Allan Woo confirmed in a message that he had tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a bonspiel in Edmonton.
