COVID-19: No immediate public facility closures in P.A.

There will be no immediate public facility closures in Prince Albert as a result of COVID-19.

In a statement released Friday, the City of Prince Albert said emergency operations staff were monitoring the situation closely and planning for the future should it worsen. The decision to cancel an event in the city is up to the person or organization hosting it.

“Our facilities are open,” Fire Chief Kris Olsen said, speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon. “If those hosting events decide to make that decision [to cancel], then that will be their decision.”

There is now a province-wide ban on gatherings of more than 250 people.

“We will follow the recommendations of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, so currently it’s set at gatherings of 250 people,” Olsen explained. “If they change that, if things progress in our area, they are the health authority, they will let us know.”

Olsen said as far as he knew all gatherings of 250 or more people in Prince Albert in the immediate future had been cancelled.

He reminded residents that while the risk of contracting COVID-19 in Prince Albert and Saskatchewan remains low, people should take precautions to limit transmission.

Wash your hands frequently, practice good cough and sneeze hygiene and stay home if you are sick.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Government of Saskatchewan’s website for regularly updated information on the pandemic.
