Hockey Canada cancels all sanctioned games,activities

After a day of cancellations and postponements in higher leagues of the game, Hockey Canada announced late Thursday that it too would follow suite because of the risks associated with COVID-19. All sanctioned activities would be cancelled.
In a statement it said “the health and safety of all participants in sport, including players, coaches, staff, officials, fans, family, volunteers and the general public, is of the utmost importance …”
It said after much consultation with the Hockey Canada membership, its chief medical officer and public health officials, the Hockey Canada Board of Directors made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities, including national championships, until further notice, effective Friday, March 13, 2020.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association later announced therefore all sanctioned activities must cease Friday, March 13, including National Championships. The Esso Cup in Prince Albert set for April 19 is a national championship. Other games such as SHA Provincial Playoffs, and Sask First Midget playoffs are among all the activities that are cancelled.
