Prince Albert experience brief unplanned outage Wednesday morning

Mar 11, 2020 | 4:12 PM

Prince Albert and certain rural areas started Wednesday morning off in the dark.

The power outage was first reported to SaskPower at 6:20 a.m. Crews were dispatched and discovered an underground cable fault.

Just before 8 a.m. crews were able to restore power to the area.

Saskpower spokesperson Joel Cherry told paNOW the outage was caused by a problem with underground equipment.

“There was a fault on a primary underground cable, so it was underground work we had to do to get the power back up,” he said.

Cherry said just over 400 customers were without power as a result. He added the outage saw a number of people in the city and surrounding area without power.

“200 of them were in [the] urban area and 214 of them were in rural [areas],” he said.
