Prince Albert digs out after snow dump

Mar 9, 2020 | 12:43 PM

Just when you thought you were finished with winter, it pulls you back in.

Prince Albert’s Roadway’s Manager Brent Kennedy noted crews have been busy since Saturday cleaning and removing snow from the main roads. Once completed they will shift to bus routes.

Kennedy explained the colder weather is actually aiding in cleanup.

“The cold weather is definitely helping us, otherwise it would be more slush we’d be moving around,” Kennedy told paNOW. “It takes longer to move wet snow and you start to see more rutting.”

He added unless a residential area is in need of cleaning they won’t be clearing those areas.

“Residential, right at this moment we have no more plans to go back in there,” Kennedy said. “Hopefully Mother Nature will take care of it for us.”

According to Environment Canada, the Prince Albert region received between 12 to 15 cm of snow and at times was faced with plus 40 km/h winds.

The temperatures also cooled off. On Monday morning the temperature bottomed out at -29 C.

We’ll see a brief warmup on Wednesday and then the weather turns cool again.

“It does look like we’ll be back in the cold by the end of the week,” Meteorologist with Environment Canada Terri Lang told paNOW. “We know that winter still has a hold on us and we have to be aware of that, as much as we would like to be out in short sleeves and flip flops.”
