Alcohol believed factor in head-on crash: RCMP

Mar 2, 2020 | 2:00 PM

Nearly four months after a bad crash last fall north of Prince Albert, RCMP have laid charges.

August Ermine Bates, 21, faces a total of six charges, including two for impaired driving causing bodily harm.

The head-on crash happened Nov. 2 on Highway 2. A couple from the Christopher Lake area were on their way to a Riders game in Regina.

Despite suffering a fractured hip, Matthew Klassen helped pull his wife from the burning vehicle. Ashley was only released from hospital last week. She suffered significant head injuries which have impacted her abilities to talk, read and write.

As part of their investigation, the RCMP were waiting for both a toxicology report as well as crash scene report which have indeterminate timelines. Bates has been scheduled to appear March 10th at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
