16 year old charged in alleged Grandmother’s Bay homicide

A 16-year-old from Grandmother’s Bay is facing a charge of second degree murder.

The male cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A media release from RCMP Sunday said La Ronge/Stanley Mission RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit South were investigating the incident of Feb.29. At about 1:30 a.m., officers and La Ronge EMS were called to an assault at a residence .

When they arrived they found an adult male, identified as 32-year-old Norris Kevin Charles of Grandmother’s Bay, deceased within the home.

The accused male remains in custody and will make his first appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday, March 2 at 9 a.m.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit South has taken carriage of the investigation with assistance from La Ronge/Stanley Mission RCMP, Yorkton and Prince Albert General Investigation Sections, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services and Prince Albert Police Dog Services.

An autopsy for Mr. Charles is scheduled to take place in Saskatoon on Monday, March 2.

The investigation is ongoing.
