Roughriders release some details of Grey Cup Festival

Feb 28, 2020 | 11:40 AM

The Saskatchewan Roughriders unveiled some of the details of the 2020 Grey Cup Festival on Friday.

The festival is to begin on Nov. 17 and run every day until Nov. 22, when the 108th Grey Cup game is to be played at Mosaic Stadium.

For the first time ever, everything from daily activities for the public to team parties to the game are to be held in the same location. In this case, that’s Evraz Place.

The NexGen Energy Street Festival is to be held in more than 400,000 square feet of outdoor space west of Mosaic Stadium. That area will include interactive installations, food and music from morning to night each day.

In the lead-up to the Grey Cup Festival, the Richardson Pioneer Community Celebration is to be held.

According to the Roughriders, six communities in Saskatchewan each will be awarded $25,000 “to help with an asset or infrastructure need in their hometown aligned with health, wellness and active living.”

Eight finalists will be selected and the public will vote for the winner.

Applications forms and details about the entries are available on the festival website. The deadline for applications is March 27.

The Grey Cup Festival also will include the inaugural League of Legends Canadian Nationals Esport Tournament.

Teams from across the country are to compete in four qualifying tournaments leading up to the national tournament, which is to be staged at Evraz Place during Grey Cup Week.

More details about the festival are available on the festival’s website .

More to come.
