École St. Mary High School is set to host athletes from all over the province this coming weekend.

The Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association Regional High School Wrestling Tournament will begin this Saturday. St. Mary head coach Callam Olver said the event will bring over 100 athletes to the city to compete.

“It’s all areas of Saskatchewan as North as you can go, as South as you can go,” he said.

Olver added the only cities that won’t be represented are Saskatoon and Regina. The regional competition is a rotating event, which makes its way around the province. The athletes coming to compete have quite a bit on the line.

“Top four athletes in each category will qualify for the provincial tournament,” Olver said.

St. Mary will bring 25 wrestlers to the tournament, in both boys’ and girls’ weight classes. Olver said they generally bring a contingent of this size to the competition. The coach added he feels good about his team’s chances heading in.

“All of our wrestlers have trained extremely hard throughout the season,” he said.

The event begins at 9 a.m. in the school’s main gym. Admission for adults is $6, while it is $4 for kids. Olver said it is not often there are this many competitors from such a wide range of places.

“It’s definitely a unique tournament,” he said.
