Diagnosing, Managing and Caring for Complex Edema

This symposium will provide evidence-based information and updates on diagnosis, care and management of all types of lymphedema and lipedema and promote interprofessional treatment of lymphedema and lipedema that is consistent and based on best-practice guidelines.

Target Audience:

  • All Medical and Health Care Professionals including Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Therapy Assistants, Massage Therapists, Pharmacists, Dietitians, students in these disciplines and other interested health professionals, policy makers and program planners.
  • Lymphedema and lipedema patients, guests and all other interested personnel.

Key note Speakers:

• Dr. David Keast from London ON, a founding member of the Canadian Association of Wound Care, Director of the Canadian Lymphedema Association and very involved at the international level including LIMPRINT. He is an internationally recognized educator.

• Dr. Josef Stutz from Germany, the founder and world-renowned authority of the water-jet assisted liposuction for lipedema.

• Dr. Gordon Zello from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, a professor of nutrition and an associate member of the college of Kinesiology and a member of the university’s Obesity Research Group. He specializes in metabolism and nutrition.

• Shan Liao from Calgary AB, a research Associate professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases. Her research includes scientific developments in Lymphedema Research, including the link of lymphedema with inflammation.

• Dr. Susan Harrisfrom Vancouver BC, faculty of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia. She is a family physician for over 30 years and has challenged the myths around exercise and lymphedema by personally experiencing the Dragon Boat Races.

• Ms. Polly Armourfrom Gardiner, New York. She shares her perspective on “Not All Fat is created Equal”. She lives with lipedema and shares her journey including going to Germany for surgery.Other areas of interest:
