Poor deadly fashion statement

Feb 19, 2020 | 2:00 PM

A new clothing line designed in Prince Albert can easily be described as hardly cute.

Jyl Toews, owner of Kate Jacobs Baby Boutique, came up with the idea to create kids’ clothes bearing slogans such as ‘not even cuz’, ‘poor deadly anyways’, or ‘I’m hardly cute then.’

She explained she wanted something the city could call its own.

“It’s the language you only hear if you’re in Prince Albert and if you’re in Saskatoon or Regina and you hear somebody speak this way, you know instantly they are originally from Prince Albert,” she said.

The onesies and T-shirts are available in newborn to 5T sizes. Toews said she does not expect them to last long.

“At the rate people are messaging me and asking me about sizes, and availability. Within the week, I think they’ll be gone,” she said.

While Toews came up with the idea for the designs, the clothes were ultimately created with help from Sarah Hardy at Designs by Sarah Nichole. She told paNOW she loved the idea.

“I think that’s something unique to Prince Albert. There’s definitely a slang that goes around,” she said.

Hardy confirmed there have been talks about doing some adult shirts and other projects.
