St. John returns to Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Roughriders brought back a familiar face on Day 2 of CFL free agency.

Offensive lineman Josiah St. John, who spent three seasons with the Roughriders before signing with the Toronto Argonauts in 2019, rejoined Saskatchewan on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old from Toronto signed a one-year contract.

That move followed a relatively quiet day on Tuesday, when the Roughriders made three moves.

Later Wednesday, 3downnation.com reported defensive back Denzel Radford had left Saskatchewan and signed a free-agent pact with the Argos.

The Roughriders have nine free agents on their list, including veterans like receivers Emmanuel Arceneaux and Naaman Roosevelt, linebacker Sam Hurl and offensive lineman Thaddeus Coleman.

Returning to Riderville

Saskatchewan selected St. John with the first pick overall in the 2016 CFL draft out of the University of Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder played 22 games over three seasons with the Roughriders before leaving in free agency.

He bounced around the CFL in 2019, making stops with the Argos, B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos.

St. John adds depth to an offensive line that lost guards Dariusz Bladek and Philip Blake to Toronto on Tuesday.

Eastbound and Down

Radford, a 25-year-old from Calgary, joins the Argos after playing 25 games over three seasons with the Roughriders. Saskatchewan acquired him from Montreal during training camp in 2017.

Primarily a special-teamer, Radford had 28 tackles on cover teams during his career. That included 24 in 2017, when he tied for third in the CFL.
