Police recover stolen rings

Six people are facing charges in connection to a break-in at the Prince Albert Raiders’ office last month.

Among the items taken were two championship rings, along with computer and laptop equipment. At Monday’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting, Police Chief Jon Bergen revealed his team recovered all the big expense items.

“One of the rings was actually found in the box of a pick up truck that was lost there by one of our suspects through another theft,” he said.

The incident happened on Jan. 20 and the items were recovered the following day. Bergen said he was very proud of his team’s work.

“We had a really good strong response through our patrol division, and then our crime reduction team picked it up and continued to work on it in combination with our intel officer,” he said. He added many of the officers on the newly formed crime reduction team were also involved with the break and enter unit task force last fall.

“They learned some things throughout those investigations that I think guided them on this investigation,” Bergen said.

The accused were found responsible for multiple break and enters in the city, and have pending court dates.

According to January’s crime statistics, there were 281 reports of property crimes. This represented an increase of nearly 70 more incidents than the same month in 2019.

There were 67 incidents of theft under $5,000 and 98 reports of mischief and willful damage.
