Car dealers in Prince Albert have banded together to support the Rose Garden Hospice.

Thursday afternoon at the hospice office in the Gateway Mall, the P.A. Automobile Dealers Association, which is made up of 10 dealerships in the city donated $100,000. According to organizers this is the second biggest announced donation the hospice has received.

Joe Weinrich, president of the association said this is the first time the group made such a contribution.

“This likely is the first one of my knowledge where we actually sat down in a room together and agreed on an amount and put that together for one organization,” he said.

Weinrich said each of the 10 dealerships contributed 10,000. By joining to deliver one large donation, he said they hope it will have a significant impact.

“When you put it together, $100,000 will help put together a room or a playground or whatever they deem the best use of the funds,” he said.

Ralph Boychuk with the Rose Garden Hospice said the donation from the automobile association was a pleasant surprise. He added so far over $2.2 million was raised to help build the hospice.

“It’s just an amazing contribution from a group that meets every so often to discuss their own economy,” he said.

Hospice organizers are hoping to break ground on the site by spring. Boychuk said work is being done to get ready for construction. A project manager has been hired to oversee the project.

“I suspect within probably the next few weeks, we’ll be in the process of tendering,” Boychuk said.

The hospice has also hired an engineering firm which is working on the project.

Overall Boychuk said they are happy with where they are in the process.

“We’re bang on time with exactly where we want to be,” he said.
