Arts Centre launches screen printing program

The city of Prince Albert has bought a professional screen printing machine.

Classes on the technology will soon be offered at the Arts Centre. Community groups, teams, and schools will be able to make use of the equipment as well. It can also be employed for events and parties.

“I think it’s a really accessible art form,” Arts and Culture Programmer Kayanna Wirtz told paNOW.

She explained screen printing may appeal to people who might be intimidated by more traditional art classes like painting.

“Depending on how deep you want to get into it, you can be at that level where you just pull a squeegee over a stencil and your design turns out really awesome, and it turns out awesome every time,” she said.

The public’s first opportunity to use the screen printer will be Family Day on Feb. 17. For $15 people can bring their own shirt to print a Prince Albert themed design on.

The graphic will be selected by a vote via the city’s Facebook page. The selection of potential designs will be posted on Tuesday.

Tote bags will also be provided as a way to promote the city’s efforts to reduce plastic bags. A bylaw banning plastic checkout bags is expected to pass on Monday night.
