French Canadian Society holds soccer day get-together

Jan 26, 2020 | 9:51 AM

Children from different schools of the ‘Conseil des écoles Fransaskoises’ (CEF) were encouraged to get to know each other this week. And it happened on the indoor soccer turf.

On Thursday students played friendly games of soccer at the Alfred Jenkins Field House organized by the French-Canadian Society from Prince Albert.

According to a media release from the society, students from ages 8 to 12 were split into teams with children from each school and engaged in round robin play. Each team got to play against each other at least once. The four schools participating were École Valois, École Providence, École Pere Mercure, and École St-Isidore.

The children were split into teams featuring one student from each school to encourage one another to get to know each other. The day offered by the French-Canadian Society from Prince Albert was meant to go along with their mandate to ‘bring together francophone and francophiles from the Prince Albert and surrounding area through cultural and sporting activities.’

The soccer games also encouraged the use of the French language beyond the classroom.

Each player received a participation medal.

“The event was a great success; students were enthusiastic players with lots of energy and good sportsmanship. We look forward to another wonderful soccer day next year,” as stated in the release.
