Mintos pick up their straight after calming the Swift storm

Jan 25, 2020 | 3:34 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos picked up their third win in a row on Saturday, beating the Swift Current Legionnaires 5-3 at the Art Hauser Centre.

They improved their record to 23-13-0-1 in the process, putting themselves in a tie for fifth with the Notre Dame Hounds. The Legionnaires are in eighth place with a 16-14-1-3 record.

Chase Bertholet broke a 3-3 tie, as he banged one with 6:32 left in the third period. Ty Bahm filled the empty net from his own blueline to seal the deal for the Mintos with 46 seconds left.

The game was far from easy though for the Mintos. After going up 1-0 in the second period with a snipe from Josh Peppler, the Legionnaires put up three straight goals in a span of 1:49. Spencer Bell, Tyler Council and Jaxon Martens suddenly gave the Legionnaires a 3-1 lead with 11:46 remaining in the second period.

But the Mintos were able to tie it up before the second period ended, getting goals from Ashton Ferster and Gage Helm.

Joel Favreau stopped 21 of 24 shots in goal for the Mintos. Jacob Herman made 30 saves on 34 shots for the Legionnaires.

The Mintos will take on the Notre Dame Hounds on Sunday, 1:30 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre for their next game.
