The 2020 Esso Cup is only three months away from puck drop in Prince Albert.

From April 19 to 25 the Art Hauser Centre will be graced by teams eager to compete for Canada’s national female midget hockey championship.

Volunteer Coordinator Candice Dawson said there are still multiple volunteer positions needed to be filled. Some of those include ticket sales, ushers, access control, hospitality, and team services to name a few.

Ideally, she said they would like to have 250 volunteers for the seven-day event. For those who would like to apply can do look here.

“Volunteers for our national event with the Esso Cup and Hockey Canada are obviously essential, we can’t have the event without them,” she said. “The girls are excited and everybody’s coming from out of town. The volunteers running the event, we truly need them in order for this to be successful.”

Organizers are hoping to get more volunteer applications now the holiday season has passed.Dawson added if anyone has any questions regarding volunteer positions or anything about the event they can email questions to paesso2020@gmail.com.

Chair of the event Robin Wildey said planning of the Esso Cup has been going smoothly.

“We have a great committee that has really devoted their time and efforts into making this probably one of the best Esso cups around,” he told paNOW.

He added the organizing committee has a lot of passion and ideas to make the event something special.

“We want to make sure we do these national championships the right way and a way that’s going to really make Prince Albert proud,” he explained.

He said they want to stress how a top-notch facility like the Art Hauser Centre can add to the spectator; experience.

“We have a passionate city full of hockey fans,” he said.

The organizing committee consists of eight to ten people divided into different categories.

“This committee came together pretty quick; we all had mutual interest. When we asked people to come join us there was really no hesitation,” Wildey said. “Everybody knows the female hockey game is climbing in popularity and [we want ] to show the talent that these female players possess.

“We want to make sure that we give them the best facilities, the best planning and the best kind of area to showcase their talents.”

Full tournament packages are on sale for $65 on the Hockey Canada website. The package includes all round robin games and the championship rounds for 19 games in total.
