‘She had the biggest heart’: family of Sheena Billette speaks following arrests

The family of murdered La Ronge woman Sheena Billette, who was a mother of four young children, are sharing their thoughts following the laying of charges in connection with her death just before Christmas.

Jasmine Slinn, the sister of Billette’s partner Jarvis Slinn, said the family was grateful for the efforts of the RCMP to date, and anyone with info “should come forward so justice can be served for Sheena.”

Five people have been charged, four of them with first-degree murder. Two of the suspects are still being sought by police.

In an email to larongeNOW, Slinn said she had set up a Go Fund Me page for her widowed brother to help him raise his young family.

“I am thankful for the generosity that has been shown so far …a lot can be done through social media,” she said. “My focus is to create an education trust fund for my nieces and nephew and to assist Jarvis and his family.”

She said it was an extremely difficult time for her brother and “working is one of the last things currently on his mind.”

Asked by larongeNOW how the family had responded to news of the recent arrests, Slinn said some were dealing with the news better than others.

“Family and close friends are still filled with anger and sadness as they don’t feel that there will ever be full closure,” she said.

In the email Jarvis Slinn said his partner “had the biggest heart, she cared about everyone and she put people before herself. She is the most down to earth amazing mother that loved her kids.”

Billette’s body was found Dec. 23 about seven kilometres north of La Ronge on Highway 102. On Wednesday police announced four individuals had been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and forcible confinement. A fifth person was charged with accessory after the fact.
