Food trucks, plastic bags and transit: What’s on this month at council
Prince Albert city councillors returned from Christmas break for their first executive meeting of the year on Monday.
Later this month, they’ll hit the ground running at the first regular council meeting, where they’re expected to pass the province’s first ban on plastic bags.
After a grace period to adjust, retailers will be expected to stop distributing or selling plastic checkout bags by August.
The debate over funding for special needs transit will return to the council table, likely in February. Councillors will have to decide if they can find the extra money the paratransit operator says is needed to maintain current service levels, after denying its request to increase funding during budget deliberations.
