Toffifee helps hospice

The Rose Garden Hospice has received its first major donation of 2020.

Wednesday morning Canadian Tire’s Malcolm Jenkins donated $28,600, generated from selling Toffifee candy over the holiday season to help the cause. Jenkins said he appreciates the support they got from the community.

“Kudos to the population of P.A. for devouring 28,600 boxes,” he said.

This is not the first time Jenkins contributed candy sale proceeds to support a community cause. Previous profits went toward the field house along wtih the West Flat Skate Park and Jump Start Park.

“It seems to work better than bricks actually,” he said with a laugh.

When it comes to the sale of Toffifee, Jenkins and his Prince Albert store are at the top as no store in the world sells more of it than they do.

This year Canadian Tire’s sale’s push got a boost from the fourth annual Toffifee Eating Championship. The contest saw a number of well-known local figures like Raiders Head Coach Marc Habscheid and XFM’s Kelly Taylor compete to see who could eat the most candy in five minutes. Jenkins joked for next year’s contest they want to bring in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Who knows; the sky is the limit,” he said.

Marina Mitchell with the Rose Garden Hospice said having Jenkins helping with fundraising for the hospice is appreciated.

“It’s priceless to have his support behind us,” she said. “We’re going to keep going strong.”
