City encourages residents to recycle old trees

Another Christmas has come and gone.

As the holiday season comes to a close, the City of Prince Albert wants residents to know they have options when it comes to recycling their natural Christmas trees.

“If they want to drop them off, they can drop them off to south of the Alfred Jenkins Field House there,” Tim Yeaman, the parks manager for the City of Prince Albert said.

Yeaman said they are asking people who drop of trees to make sure they clear away tinsel or any other decorations. The trees will be put to use in several ways.

“We’ll mulch them up and we’ll actually use them for mulch around tree beds, we’ll also use them out at the landfill for cover as well,” he said.

Last year Yeaman estimated just over 100 trees were dropped off.

Yeaman said it is important for people to recycle their old trees as they are a live product, which makes it all the more important for them to be recycled properly. He also stressed how important it is people drop the trees off at the field house instead of leaving them in their back alley.

“They just clutter the alleyways and that and we certainly don’t want to create that problem,” he said.

You can drop off your tree until Jan. 13.
