Emergency services respond to Highway 3 crash on New Year’s Day

A car crash on New Year’s Day sent three people to hospital.

According to Parkland Ambulance, just before 3:15 p.m. two vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 3, approximately eight kilometers west of Prince Albert.

The three injured people were cared for by Parkland Ambulance paramedics before being take to hospital in good condition for further care and treatment.

According to a Facebook post by Buckland Fire and Rescue, 11 members responded and assisted on scene for one hour.

Director of Public Affairs with Parkland Ambulance, Lyle Karasiuk, encouraged all drivers to be mindful of their driving habits as the holiday season wraps up.

“Regular activities go on each and every day,” Karasiuk. “When you’re on the highway, take your time if the road conditions are not favourable.”

Karasiuk also warned, even though temperatures have been mild so far this winter, to be prepared.

“Fortunately, we haven’t had any nasty cold weather, nor have we had any reports of people being stranded in vehicles,” he said. “Make sure you have some proper winter gear.”

“It wouldn’t take much even on a nice warm day like it has been this week… where it’s been a little warmer than average, it wouldn’t take much for you to suffer some hypothermia,” Karasiuk said.
