Mintos start off Mac’s with big win

Rookie goaltender Joel Favreau made 44 saves in goal to lead his Prince Albert Mintos to a 5-2 victory over the Sherwood Park Ennis Kings to begin their Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament Friday in Calgary.

At the moment, Favreau will likely carry most of the weight in goal for the Mintos as second-year netminder Spencer Welke is injured but did make the trip with the team.

The Mintos gave Favreau a 3-0 lead by the seven-minute mark of the second period with a pair of goals from Chase Bertholet and another from Dallyn Peekeekoot.

But the Kings made a game of it by making it 3-2 in the third period. Josh Peppler shortly regained the two-goal lead for the Mintos and Gage Helm scored an empty netter with two minutes remaining.
