Community plugged in for Christmas

Christmas is only four days away, and as everyone finishes their last-minute shopping it’s important to stop and enjoy what’s right in front of you.

There’s an abundance of Christmas lights around the city.

Dennis Adams has an eye-catching festive display on his front yard, something they’ve made a habit of doing. It started as a way for family to spend time together, but he and his wife are both cancer survivors.

“It’s just an annual thing for us,” he explained. “It’s sort of the celebration of life and the meaning of Christmas and so it just gives everybody a good feeling,” he said.

They notice a lot of people driving or stopping to look at their lights.

“It seems like every night there is someone parked in front of the house,” he added. “As long as we’re doing well there will always be a display.”

The luminous layout took him a couple weeks to put together because they add new items.

“This year was kind of funny because I had everything done and now, I found a couple more cases of stuff,” Adams said.

He said they enjoy going to look at other people’s lights and they’re impressed with the effort the whole city makes.

He added it’s not a competition with any neighbours and is happy to see any lights go up because it takes a lot of effort to go out and do it.

Another Prince Albert resident Linnette Felizardo and her family also have a magnificent light display.

Last year she said there weren’t too many houses on her street putting up lights, but this year seems different.

“Last year it was just us but this year I think we’re kind of encouraging our neighbours,” she said. “We see some lights on other houses but it’s mainly because of the kids.”

She said since they normally have plenty of people walking by, her husband wanted to put up lights because they knew children would want to look at them.

“When you see my kid how he looks at the Christmas decorations his eyes would just light up so that’s why we decided we would put up as many as we could so kids would be happy they would feel the Christmas spirit,” Felizardo said.

She said this year and in the past they’ve had people ask to take pictures in their front yard and knocked on their door to let them know what they think.

“It’s just the happiness it brings to kids and adults alike,” she said.
