“I refuse to believe this is the end”: Star Wars fan reflects on Saga’s ending

The final movie in the Star Wars Saga, opens tonight in theatres, and a Prince Albert woman who has been a fan of the franchise for over 30 years, says she has hope this won’t be the end.

Ali Mysiorek was married on May 4, 2015. Her custom designed wedding dress was made from her old Star Wars bed sheets when she was a child.

“I knew I wanted a Stars Wars dress but I really didn’t want to do the Princess Leia thing so my grandmother actually designed and made my dress,” she said.

Reflecting back on her wedding day, Mysiorek said she and her husband spent the afternoon watching Star Wars movies. Four years later, Mysiorek has boxes and boxes of collectibles at her house, which can prove challenging when you have a four-year-old child running around, who likes to touch everything.

“It’s really hard to explain to a kid that this is worth your college fund,” she said.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, directed by J.J. Abrams, represents the final episode of the nine-part Skywalker saga, which began over 40 years ago with episode four, a New Hope.

“I’m disappointed but it’s Star Wars, it’s literally going to go on forever,” Mysiorek said. “I don’t believe this is the end; I refuse to believe this is the end.”

According to the schedule for the Prince Albert Cineplex Theatre, there are four showings of the movie Thursday night: 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m, 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. By early Thursday, all the reserved seating for the early shows had been sold out.
