Hope’s Home kicks off latest fundraising push

Dec 18, 2019 | 1:23 PM

Affinity Credit Union and Hope’s Home are teaming up.

Until Jan. 15, the credit union will match all the donations made to the organization up to $50,000. Mickey MacGillivray, regional fundraising manager for Hope’s Home said right now is a busy time for them.

“We’re going through a huge renovation process, so this will definitely help for that,” she said.

MacGillivray said the renovations are 90 per cent done and will see four more beds added to their supportive living area along with other improvements. The home provides a variety of services, including regular childcare to 90 youth and permanent care for five children.

“Whether it’s Monday to Friday for daycare, or living with us, it’s just a full integration centre,” said MacGillivray.

To kickoff the fundraising season the organization put on a hot dog roast and tree lighting at their building Tuesday night. Children and parents gathered around fire pits set up in the parking lot behind the building. MacGillivray said the roast and tree lighting was a good way to bring the families who make use of the home’s services together.

“Get everybody out, enjoy the weather,” she laughed.

Kara Bahr, community engagement manager with Affinity Credit Union said the services Hope’s Home provides are ones they think are crucial, and is why they decided to support them in their current fundraising push.

“Daycare spots of course, but than providing services and care for those with really high or different medical needs, we don’t have enough of those services available in the province,” she said.

Those interested in supporting Hope’s Home are encouraged to visit the organization’s website where they can make a donation.
