Mule deer buck shot and left near St. Louis

Saskatchewan Conservation Officers are investigating another deer being shot illegally and then left to waste. This time it was a mule deer buck found south of Prince Albert near the community of St. Louis on Dec.1.
SaskTip, a group that encourages people to turn in poachers, said on its Facebook page the evidence found at the scene suggests it may have been a case of mistaken identity. Mule deer season was not open at the time and the hunter may have mistaken the mule deer for a white-tailed deer.
The post said hunters who mistakenly shoot an animal should report the incident to a conservation officer immediately and field dress the animal so it doesn’t spoil.
Charges and the loss of a hunting license may not be required if the appropriate steps are taken after mistakenly shooting an animal, and the ministry encouraged hunters to be honest.
