Train derailment near Guernsey causes oil car fire, closes Highway 16
The RCMP is telling drivers to avoid Highway 16 east of Saskatoon after a train hauling crude oil went off the tracks and caught fire early Monday.
CP Rail said the derailment happened west of Guernsey around midnight.
There are no injuries and there are no evacuations being reported at this time.
“CP emergency response and HazMat crews have been deployed to the scene and will work closely with local first responders to assess and minimize impact to the surrounding area,” the rail company said in a news release.
