Stolen property and fraud highlight busy November for police

Dec 9, 2019 | 5:00 PM

November was a busy month for the Prince Albert Police Service.

There were 965 reported offences, a slight increase from the same month in 2018.

Frauds, possession of stolen property and assaults were are among the specific categories that experienced the biggest jumps in numbers.

There were 61 reported assaults last month, compared to 49 for the same month in 2018, and year-to-date there have been 733.

The number of fraud related offences doubled year-over-year from six to 12, and reported offences related to stolen property jumped to 14 from five.

The news was not all bad last month from the police service. Initiatives to combat property crime have shown positive results through decreases in the number of break ins to residential properties, as well as outbuildings (sheds and garages).

Traffic violations have also seen a drop year over year, both in the areas of speeding tickets and impaired driving.

The Board of Police Commissioners will review and discuss the city’s crime statistics at their next scheduled meeting Jan. 13.
