Superstore and the Prince Albert and District Food Bank are joining forces.

Right now, Superstore in P.A. is accepting donations of non-perishable food items and financial contributions. The food drive, which is an annual event, will run until Christmas Eve.

Food Bank Executive Director Kim Scruby said generally December is the time of year when things get a bit busier.

“We start seeing a lot more families come in,” he said.

Scruby added the situation for some people is getting more difficult as he has noticed bills going up, which is making it harder for some people to put food on their tables.

“Suddenly the food part of your budget becomes a bit discretionary,” he said.

Getting help from grocery stores is something which is important for the local food bank. Scruby said they get support from Superstore during the year along with other grocers and this accounts from the vast majority of donations.

Vincent Szyblowski, the store manager for Superstore in P.A., said the company recognizes there are people who are not getting what they need.

“A lot of families a lot of people go without the food that they really need,” he said.

Szyblowski added feeding everybody is something that the company takes seriously, hence their support for food banks not only in P.A. but across the country. Last year the national campaign brought in over two million pounds of food and just over $3 million.
