SPCA fundraiser gives pets pic with Santa

Santa Claus gave the reindeer a rest to embrace other animals in Prince Albert Sunday to spread some holiday cheer at the SPCA.

Until 5 p.m. Santa will be available at the SPCA posing for photos. The public can bring their children and furry friends to get a photo.

SPCA Manager, Ashlee Bober told paNOW this is a fundraiser they do every year to help deal with the needs of the animals in their care such as those with medical issues.

“Usually it’s busy right to the end,” Bober said. “So, we have it today so people can come in whenever they are able to. There might be a little bit of a line up, but we are getting through people as soon as we are able to.”

For those who want a photo with Santa it costs a donation of $10 per session and unlimited number of photos in that session.

An extra addition to the fundraiser is a bake sale featuring plenty of homemade goodies.

“We’ve had a lot of our volunteers do baking for us to just also help get some funds in for the animals,” Bober explained.

She said the Christmas season is one her favourite times of the year because this is when people who have adopted pets from the SPCA bring them back for a visit with Santa.

“Us staff get to see those animals again and honestly if there’s anyway to make our Christmas is to see these animals coming back seeing how happy they are,” she said. “Seeing them with their new families and seeing them again it is the most rewarding thing of the year.”

“That is one of the reasons why most of us work here is just for that experience in itself,” Bober added.
