Students have been spreading holiday cheer this week.

Since Monday afternoon, students from local schools have been caroling classic holiday songs at city hall.

Christmas at City Hall 2019 presented by the Prince Albert Multicultural Council is meant to showcase young talent. Ten different schools performed for the people of Prince Albert as a choir.

“Bringing the kids together during the holiday season is something the community really enjoys,” Beaonca Meier, employability support coordinator for P.A. Multicultural Council, said.

Starting on Monday, Dec. 2 two choirs performed each day from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and went every day until today.

It gives the kids a chance to present what they’ve been working on,” Meier added. “[Thursday] we had our biggest group which was around 180 kids.”

Meier said the event presented a wide variety of performances including children from kindergarten to high school students.

“A lot of parents and individuals in the community really enjoy listening to these kids who have prepared so hard to do their caroling,” she said. “It kind of brings everyone a bit together.”

Today choirs from École Arthur Pechey School and École Valois School performed for a small crowd of people.

Music teacher at École Arthur Pechey School Shelly Acorn told paNOW the students enjoy performing.

“It’s a great opportunity for the kids to get practice performing for people and to spread a little bit of Christmas cheer,” Acorn said. “It’s an outing out of the school.”

Students from Arthur Pechey practiced a few times a week in preparation for their performance.

“Anytime there is a performance that’s what keeps them wanting to come back to choir,” Acorn said.
