Family of Donald Light remains hopeful

The family of missing 31-year-old Donald Light remains hopeful following a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening.

Donald Light was last seen leaving a residence in the 400 block of Eighth St. E. at 8:15 p.m. having left his home at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Donald told his family he was going for a walk and did not return.

“I would say the vigil really helped to bring comfort and a sense of peace,” Cindy Koob, Donald’s aunt, told paNOW. “The family is coming together in unity and finding strength in God and in each other, but I would say a profound sadness.”

Despite the short notice, Koob said they were happy with how many people showed to the gazebo at the riverbank Tuesday at 7 p.m. She estimated around 30 to 40 people showed up including family members.

After they met, the group lit numerous candles and prayed together. They also left some candles in the snow with a message for Donald.

“We thanked God for giving us Donald, and we committed Donald back to God, and left him in God’s care and trust God with him,” she said.

She said there are no fresh leads regarding his whereabouts, and they are counting on the police and the public.

“If anyone saw Donald or has any kind of tips, we would beg them to notify city police,” Koob added.

David Light, one of Donald’s brothers, said he had many people messaging him asking how they can help or that they felt helpless.

“I think it was just a way for everybody to come together and just show support for my mom and my family and just kind of send some positive energy out,” Light said. “It just kind of helps everybody keep Donald on their minds as well.”

The Facebook group Find Donald Light currently has 1,748 members. Light said if anyone wants to help there are charts in the group of areas that have been searched.

“Even checking your own property, I know it seems redundant,” he said. “If you haven’t been behind your shed in a while go take a look behind your shed especially if you have a property anywhere near the river or downtown.”

When asked how the family is doing Light said they feel “helpless.”

“It’s at that point where people are kind of having to be forced back to work,” he said. “My mom had to go back to work, and she doesn’t want to obviously she wants to sit by her phone and wait for Donald to call.”

“I think everybody is still in disbelief.”
