The Rose Garden Hospice has received a generous contribution.

Thursday afternoon at the organization’s offices in the Gateway Mall an anonymous donor made a $50,000 donation to help make the facility a reality.

Marina Mitchell, a board member with the Rose Garden Hospice said they are appreciative of the support from the individual.

“We’re very excited for that individual to have chosen us to donate to,” she said.

A number of people have made the decision to donate to the hospice anonymously. Mitchell said overall unnamed contributors have made contributions totaling $225,000. She added people who make the decision not to put their names out have the organization’s full backing.

“If you chose to remain anonymous, the Rose Garden Hospice fully supports your decisions on that,” she said.

So far Mitchell said they been able to raise $1.5 million. Organizers hope to raise $4 million to build the facility, which will provide care to those with terminal illnesses. The provincial government has committed $2 million to operate the facility when it opens.

Mitchell said they are happy about the community support they have been receiving. As the holidays draw closer Mitchell said many groups and organizations have been collecting money and donating it to the cause.

Mitchell explained many people who have decided to support them have a personal reason for doing so. She added there are others who just see there is a need.

“Everyone feels this is a place that Prince Albert needs to have,” she said.
