Dec 1, 2019 | 3:51 PM

The Regina Pat Canadians completely controlled the second period and were able to ride that to the bank as they defeated the Prince Albert Mintos 4-2 on Sunday at the Art Hauser Centre.

With the defeat, the Mintos fall to 13-9 on the year. The Pat Canadians are now 15-5-2 on the season.

The Pat Canadians outshot the Mintos 22-2 in the middle frame, and added two more goals to lead 4-1 after the first 40 minutes.

It turned out to be a hill too steep to climb for the Mintos. They did score once with 3:11 remaining with the extra attacker, as Dawson Springer scored on a cross-crease one-timer from Turner McMillen. They had chances with six-men on the ice, but the Pat Canadians were able to see out the rest of the game.

Chase Bertholet had the other goal for the Mintos. Tyler Digney, Noah Kuntz, Cal Caragata and Brayden Barnett scored for the Pat Canadians. Caragata leads all scorers in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with 23 goals and 44 points in 22 games.

Joel Favreau made 33 saves on 37 shots in goal for the Mintos. Jared Thompson made 15 saves on 17 shots.

Although it’s only the start of December, the Mintos have already completed their season series with the Pat Canadians. They won the debut matchup on Oct. 12 by a 2-1 margin. The Pat C’s won the remaining three games, 3-1 on Nov. 17, 4-0 on Nov. 4-0 and Sunday’s 4-2 decision.

The Mintos will head to Merlis Belsher Place on Tuesday to face the Saskatoon Contacts at 8:15 p.m. for their next game. They’ll be back at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. for a two-game set against the Notre Dame Argos.
