Nov 12, 2019 | 11:57 AM

One man is in custody and charged in connection with two recent armed robberies in the city.

On Nov. 9, police responded to a business in the 2600 block of Second Ave. W. for a robbery in progress. As officers were en route to the call, they noticed a white Toyota Tundra truck travelling at a high rate of speed. The truck matched the description provided by the call taker.

The driver did not stop for police, which triggered a chase. The pursuit ended after the driver drove onto a small pond and attempted to flee.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and is facing several charges including pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, robbery, possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The accused also faces charges in relation to an armed robbery on Nov. 3 in the 400 block of 15th Street East. In that incident, two people allegedly stole cigarettes, lottery tickets, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man is charged with robbery with a firearm, wearing a face mask with intent to commit an indictable offence, and breaching a court order.

Trent James Ferris is set to appear in court this morning.
