Saskatoon Goldfins 43rd Annual Invitational and Masters Swim Meet

Many Prince Albert swimmers successfully kicked off the competitive season by setting personal best times at a meet in Saskatoon on the weekend.

Twenty-three swimmers from the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club traveled to Saskatoon to participate in the Goldfins open swim meet Nov.1-3 at the Shaw Centre. The Sharks team included age-group swimmers, masters swimmers and para-swimmers.

Masters swimmers Sharon Lyons and Karin Ferris participated in this swim meet. Lyons broke the provincial record in the 25-metre butterfly for the 50-54 age category, with a time of 17.97 seconds. The old record was 18.29 seconds and had been in place for more than 20 years! Lyons also came first in the 50-metre backstroke and 50-metre butterfly. Karin Ferris – swimming in the 45-49 age category — came first in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke 100-metre backstroke.

In the future stars swim meet, Sharks swimmers came first, third and sixth in 25-metre freestyle event. Sharks swimmers also placed third in the 50-metre freestyle and seventh and ninth in the 50-metre backstroke. As well, a Sharks swimmer came second in the 25-metre breaststroke. Natasha Coertze broke the club record for 12 year old girls in the 25-metre freestyle and in the 25-metre backstroke.

Swimmers participating in the age-group meet achieved countless personal best times.

Highlight from the swim meet included the following:

Liam Murphy achieved five “AA” TIME in the 50- and 100-metre freestyle, 50- and 100-metre backstroke and 50-metre breaststroke. He placed sixth in the 50-metre breaststroke, 100-metre individual medley, 100-metre butterfly and 200-metre backstroke.

Mackenzie Emery achieved personal best times in the 50- and 200-metre freestyle, 100-metre individual medley, 100-metre butterfly and 200-metre backstroke.

Luthar Wiberg had personal best times in the 50- and 200-metre backstroke, 100-metre individual medley and 50-metre butterfly.

Soren Hansen had personal best times in the 50- and 200-metre freestyle, 50-, 100- and 200-metre backstroke, 100-metre individual medley and 50-metre butterfly.

He placed fourth in the 100-metre IM and sixth in the 200-metre backstroke.

Sarah Alam set personal best times in 50-,100- and 200-metre freestyle, 50- and 100-metre backstroke, 100-metre breaststroke and 100-metre individual medley.

Frenzy Altavano had personal best times in the 200-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre individual medley.

Dani Boisson achieved personal best times in 50- and 100-metre freestyle, 50- and 200-metre breaststroke, 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre individual medley.

Camryn Cooling had personal best times in the 50-metre freestyle and 100-metre individual medley.

Ali Diehl set personal best times in the 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre breaststroke.

Clara Gelhorn achieved personal best times in the 50-, 100-, 200- and 400-metre freestyle, 50- and 100-metre backstroke, 50-metre breaststroke, 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre individual medley.

Ava Helgason set personal best times in the 50-metre freestyle, 100- and 200-metre backstroke, 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre individual medley.

Mckenzie Naytowhow set personal best times in 50- and 100-metre freestyle.
